About Us

This site aims to bring together and acknowledge the wide range of bluegrass pioneers who helped collectively create, develop and support the burgeoning bluegrass industry in Australia.

The inclusion of names in this site is a result of knowing people who have had an influence on my early bluegrass introductions in the late 1970’s and 80’s. During those years I met and was inspired by Chris Duffy who toured extensively, introducing Australian audiences to the likes of John Kane, Paul Wookey, Dan Crary, Byron Berline, Vince Gill, Bill Keith and Mark O’ Connor. I did not appreciate it at the time, but this was an amazing achievement for one individual. Others around the country have been just as inspired by those early tours and concerts.

Since that time there has been an emergence of a number of highly successful bluegrass musicians and bands. There has also been a large number of old time and bluegrass music festivals in Australia. These festivals regularly feature a variety of highly skilled Australian and International musicians and bands. More recently we see regular jams sessions cropping up right around the country.

This is not a definitive list by any means, it is simply my starting point. At the time of writing we have made several other approaches to people. Some have declined to be acknowledged while we are working with others to write their stories.

We will continue to add names and profiles to this site as they come to mind.

Thanks for visiting.

Greg McGrath.
